Meet the New Faces of Tower of Bone – And the Villain Who Could Destroy Them All

Warning: Book 1 spoilers ahead!

Book 2 of The Keepers of Time Trilogy is almost here!

Tower of Bone picks up immediately after the cliffhanger ending of Keepers of Time. We rejoin the characters as they move forward to unravel the secrets of the Clock Tower, Joan’s former life, as well as Arial’s long, long existence and the erosion of his humanity.

We spend a lot of time with our old Keepers of Time friends (meet them here!) but there are a few new additions as well.

Ready to meet them?

Meet the New Cast of Tower of Bone

The Priest

I’m super excited about this villain.

The Priest is the main villain of the trilogy. He’s a mysterious old man who hides his face under the hood of a red cloak and wears a star-shaped amulet with an amber-colored stone at its center. A strange ticking noise follows him everywhere.

He rescues Katherine (you’ll meet her in a moment) and offers her a deal: if she works with him to save humanity, he’ll give her the education she’s always dreamed of and a chance to change the world. But of course, that deal comes with a lot of loopholes and more than a few hidden strings attached.

Cults have always fascinated me, especially the stories of how cult leaders manipulate intelligent people for their own ends. The Priest is an amalgamation of some of my favorite cult stores and literary villains, and I loved introducing him in Tower of Bone. (Buckle up, because we’ll dive deep into his past and psyche in book 3!)

Katherine

At the end of Keepers of Time, we learned that Joan is the reincarnated soul of a woman named Katherine who lived in Scotland in the late 16th century.

She was also Arial’s wife.

After her death, Arial wandered the earth for centuries searching for her, hoping she’d be reborn. Joan has a few faint memories of being Katherine, but in Tower of Bone, we get to learn the real story of Joan’s past life and what Arial is hiding from her.

Katherine is brilliant, hungry to learn, and one of the most powerful Seers to ever live, which lands her in serious trouble with her community. She also deeply wants to do the right thing, which ultimately leads to her downfall.

As Katherine works closely with Arial and the Priest she learns the terrible truth of what she’s helping them accomplish, and knows she must do everything in her power to stop it.

Tomás

Tomás is a solider-turned-mercenary in the Priest’s service. After he could no longer justify his service to the Spanish Inquisition, he turned his considerable talents toward a better cause—or so he believes.

He works closely with Arial, plays a part in Katherine’s rescue and training, and serves as the comedic relief in tense situations.

Though Tomás has always grappled with some of the Priest’s policies and refuses many of the benefits offered to his inner circle, he can no longer justify helping them once he discovers what the Priest is really up to.

And did I mention he’s dreamy?

The best part is, this character was never part of my original plan for the story, but he literally just appeared on the page one day and changed the course of the entire trilogy.

The Owl

The silver barn owl doesn’t have a name, but she’s important to the series all the same.

Our heroes encounter this weirdly intelligent and perceptive owl when they need help, and it quickly becomes a companion, a guide, and a source of comfort, especially for Gabby.

Is there more to this owl than meets the eye, or are they imagining things?

This is another character that slipped in within my planning for it, but now I can’t imagine the story without her. I’m fascinated by the idea of animal guides and familiars, and I know the power of an animal companion.

I’m also that weird 30 something who’s taken up bird watching as a hobby, and like all authors, my obsessions have a way of sprouting up in my stories.

Tower of Bone: Available on April 8th, 2025!

Tower of Bone might be my favorite book I’ve ever written. (Don’t tell the others.) It’s a story of love, sacrifice, and remembering and reclaiming one’s power, even with the odds stacked against them.

The ebook is currently available for preorder on Amazon.

I can’t wait for you to read the second installment of the Keepers of Time Trilogy!
